Catching Up…Again…Weeks 31-35

Standard

Sorry it’s been so long again, things have been a little crazy as you can imagine.  First of all, here is a picture of me at the beach at 31 weeks…

31 Weeks! At the Beach...

The first part of February my parents and Matt, Summer and the boys all came up to Big Bear to go skiing.  Ryan and I went up (it’s only a two hour drive from by the ocean to snow skiing!) and spent a long weekend with them.  It was wonderful, very cozy cabin, Ryan even skied some.  The boys of course loved it and couldn’t get enough – Walker cried on the last day because he didn’t want to quit – he learned this year and skied a full 3 days.  Here is me, sis, and mom at the cabin…

Big Bear - Feb. 2012

Once we got home from that, it was the first week of February and time to start the house hunt since we need to move by the first part of March!  We spent a day with a realtor – found nothing.  I looked online that night and found a couple to go and see the next day (the 14th) – I was getting pretty nervous at this point.  We really liked one of the houses we saw, so it was between that one and one we’d seen over the weekend.  The next day we went to look at both houses again and although I’d cried a lot of tears over being so unsure where I wanted to bring my baby home, as soon as I saw them both again I knew.  So, we called the guy, met him the next day to sign the lease and as of Feb. 16th we have a place to live!!  Here is a picture of the outside, once we get moved in a set up I’ll devote an entire post to pictures of the inside.  Of course there is a ton to do to prepare to move, transferring water, power, tv, internet, insurance….and it’s not cheap either.  We went yesterday (the 20th) and bought a new refrigerator – we did not bring any of that from Texas since we moved into a condo that had everything…next is a washer/dryer.  But we are getting there!  Movers are coming on Friday, March 2!  It’s going to be a challenge for me since I sort of like to be in charge to sit back and watch, but I think I will manage – I’m not capable of much else!

Our Cali. House!

My mom will get here on Feb. 28 – next week, so for that I’m very excited.  Although she has a broken foot, hurt knee and hurt shoulder, between the two of us we are quite a pair, but I’m sure we can manage to get the house somewhat set up.  My dad has decided to come at the end of that week – so that will be a huge help!!

In the midst of all of that we went in for our 34 week sono (they wanted to check his size again since last time he was about a pound larger than expected).  And guess what…he’s still big!!  He weighed in at 6lb. 5 oz. at our 34 week appt.  This was the first time we actually got to see his little face – I fell in love all over again.  We also got to see his hands and feet which he had to keep somewhat still this time because he’s running out of room!  Here is our little angel.  (Keep in mind he is taking up the entire frame – it’s his profile, his hand is up by his face…don’t worry I only saw a blob for a while too, but once you realize his nose, lips, etc. it’s all you see!)

Luke - 34 Weeks

As for me, I’m feeling as good as can be expected at this point.  On Sunday (19th) I had quite a few contractions starting at about 4 a.m. – we went on to church, lunch and looking at appliances, but once they started getting every 15-20 minutes we decided to call the doctor and head for home.  She wanted me to come in if I had 6 in an hour, I only got up to 5 at one point, but once we got home and I laid down and had a bunch of water I was a lot better.  So we’ve spent the past couple of days relaxing a bit and I’m doing great.

We went to our first Childbirth class last Saturday, we have another one this Saturday and that’s it.  It was interesting, I’m not sure if I feel more prepared or like it’s really going to happen, which is frightening.  I know he has to have an exit strategy, but I’m not sure I like it!

We have another check-up tomorrow then in 2 weeks another sonogram (I’ll be 36 weeks then) and we should know a lot more about his arrival at that point!

Sorry it’s so much info, but a lot has happened!

For my nephews who like to follow along…

Baby’s now the size of a squash!
Baby’s going through major brain and nerve development these days. His irises now react to light, and all five senses are in working order. (He won’t pick up anything from his nose until after birth, though — smell is transferred through air, not amniotic fluid.)

Baby’s now the size of a honeydew!

Things are heating up inside as well: Baby may grow up to a full inch this week alone, and his brain is developing like crazy. Pretty soon, he’ll be able to coordinate breathing with sucking and swallowing. Also, his bones are hardening, and he’s started to keep his eyes open when he’s awake.

Love you all!

Amber, Ryan, Luke
