30 Weeks and Sonogram

We went in for our 30 week sono on Thursday and not surprisingly, Luke did not cooperate very well!  He is laying head down (which is perfect for delivery) – his head is basically resting on my pelvic bone on the right, his body then curls back across my stomach to the left and his legs come back around to the right under my ribs.  He is basically in a U shape just sideways.  Unfortunately for the sonogram, the back of his head is what you could see, he is facing backwards, he did turn his face and we could very briefly see his profile and then a little of his face, but because he is so low it wasn’t a great picture.  We could see his eye sockets and he did blink a few times.  We also noticed a sort of “halo” around his head and when she zoomed in, you could see that he has a little patch of hair standing straight up!  At one point he had the hiccups so his little boy was shaking like crazy, and of course he did his usual kicks and punches.  To watch the sono ( Ryan added some special touches), click below:

My mom got here Tuesday so she could go with us because she has not seen any of the sonograms, so that was fun.  On Wednesday she and I went to order his nursery furniture, I can’t wait to get it, I absolutely love it, I’m so excited.  The ship date is March 28 (the day Luke is due).  So I’m hoping it may come a little early, we just didn’t want it to come too early while we were still in the condo.  So I’m sure it will work out perfect.

Baby’s now the size of a squash!
As baby’s skin smoothes out, his brain just keeps getting more wrinkled. All those grooves and indentations increase surface area, meaning more room for that oh-so-essential brain tissue.  He’s also adding some brawn — his grip is now strong enough to grasp a finger.

Although he is supposed to be just now around 3 pounds, the sono tech was able to determine that he weighs 3 pounds 14 ounces – he’s gonna be a big boy!

Well, that’s it for now.  We will have another sonogram at 34 weeks and then at 36 weeks – we are almost there!!

We went to the Dr. for a regular check-up on Tuesday – all is well.  His heartbeat is between 135-140 BPM, she said it sounds perfect!

Next Thursday (30 Wks!) we will go in for a sonogram – we haven’t had one since 18 wks. when they told us it’s a boy, so this should be fun, he will have really grown a lot.  I can’t wait to see his sweet little face, I’m trying to imagine already what he will look like and I have no idea, but I know he will be handsome!

Baby’s now the size of a squash!
Baby’s energy is surging, thanks to white fat depositing beneath his skin. And since he’s growing so fast (weight will triple by birth), things are getting kind of cramped in the womb. What all this means for you: Get ready for some more kicks and jabs to the ribs.  His muscles and lungs are continuing to mature, and his head is growing bigger to make room for his developing brain.

For fun, here is a short video of him moving around – my tummy is shaking like a bowl full of jelly!

Luke Moving 1/6/12

He does still respond well to Ryan’s voice, he still has his days and nights mixed up so he gets really active about 9 p.m., so when we lay down Ryan talks to him and tells him it’s nite nite time and he settles down.  When Ryan leaves every morning around 4, he kisses me and then my belly and talks to Luke for a minute and Luke always starts kicking, it’s so sweet, he already loves his daddy!

Since the last 2 posts were full of pics of me, how about some pictures of goodies I’ve gotten for Luke!!

I think I just might...

Maternity Portraits

While in Texas for Christmas, we braved the freezing cold weather and did our maternity portraits.  My sweet friend, Andrea, who also did our wedding was kind enough to take them for us.  I knew exactly what I wanted and she capture them perfectly!  Here are a few of my favorites….

The quilt in the field one was made by Ryan’s grandmother (his mom’s mom).

Third Trimester!! 28 weeks

YAY!!  I cannot believe it’s already the start of the third trimester, it really does seem to have gone fast – although there were some days I thought may never end.  Being pregnant during the holidays really does help though because you have about a month that just flies by – and luckily I felt great during that time!  Still feeling good, go back for a checkup in a couple of weeks and then in for the 30 week sonogram which should be awesome because we haven’t seen him since week 18, so there should be a whole lot more to see!

He’s still moving around like a crazy person every day!  He pretty much has his days and nights mixed up.  He will wake me up between 7:30 and 8 a.m. to eat breakfast then not much movement most of the day but come bed time (around 9 p.m.) he starts getting wild!  Of course I don’t mind because I love feeling his kicks and watching my stomach move around and look like a tidal wave going from one side to the other – it’s an amazing miracle.

Over Christmas break we went home to Texas to see all of our families.  I also had my baby shower at that point.  It was absolutely beautiful, so many of my friends were there, it was wonderful to get to see all of them.  The hostesses did an amazing job, it was simply stunning – more than I could have imagined.  And of course Luke got more than he may possibly ever need, but that’s o.k.  Then when we got home there were several boxes that had been delivered and they just seem to keep coming – we are truly blessed.  It’s amazing to have so many people who love us and love our sweet little boy before he ever even gets here.

Cake and Candy Table

On New Year’s Eve we spent the day in Malibu at the Getty Villa – it’s a museum of Roman antiquities.  The grounds are designed after a villa in Pompeii that was buried when Mt. Vesuvius erupted, it was gorgeous and a lot of fun.  Of course we came home that night and were in bed by 10 – our last New Year’s pre-kids and we were wimps!  Oh Well!!

The Getty Villa - 12/31/11

Yesterday we went to Pasadena to see the Rose Parade Floats the day after, you can get up close and see everything, it was amazing!  It was 80+ degrees, so I was exhausted when we were done, but it was totally worth it.

Jan 3, 2012

So enough about what we’ve been up to, here’s what Luke’s been up to in there….

(not sure why this says month 6, it’s really month 7)

Baby’s now the size of an eggplant!
Baby’s lungs are mature enough that, if born right now, he has a pretty good chance of surviving (with help from medical technology). His skin is still pretty wrinkly (one byproduct of living in amniotic fluid) but will smoothen as fat continues to deposit.

How your baby’s growing:

By this week, your baby weighs two and a quarter pounds and measures 14.8 inches from the top of his head to his heels. He can blink his eyes, which now sport lashes. With his eyesight developing, he may be able to see the light that filters in through your womb. He’s also developing billions of neurons in his brain and adding more body fat in preparation for life in the outside world.

You’re in the home stretch! The third and final trimester starts this week. If you’re like most women, you’ll gain about 11 pounds this trimester.  He should start gaining about a half a pound a week these last 10-12 weeks – I can’t even imagine, he already feels so heavy in there.  Let’s hope I only gain from him gaining, 11 pounds is plenty!!

Last thing, we also did our maternity pictures while in Texas.  My precious friend Andrea did them, they are simply amazing, I will work on a few of them and post soon for everyone to see.

Until then….love you all.
