Week 14!

Standard

Still waiting on the “feel good” trimester to begin!  Not really having headaches still which is good, but the nausea is pretty intense some days, so hopefully that will subside and I can get out of the house like a normal person!  It is exciting to know that in about a month we should be able to find out if it’s a boy or girl.  I have lots of nursery ideas swirling in my head (and hundreds of pictures saved on my computer in case I forget!)  Otherwise, all is well.  Ryan is still being great, such a big help, and loves me even on the days I stay in my pj’s and don’t move from the couch.  I’ll be glad when I can eat something besides chicken though, it’s getting pretty old.  But I know he/she will be worth every bit of the misery right now!  I’ll take a picture later in the week and send it (once I’ve had a shower and styled my hair!)  I feel huge, but I don’t think I’ve grown much more….

Baby’s now the size of a lemon!

At 3.4 inches and 1.5 ounces, he’s almost doubled in weight since last week and keeps on growing.
Your adorable little fetus is busy with thumb sucking, toe wiggling, (not so cute but equally amazing) making urine, and breathing amniotic fluid as the liver, kidneys, and spleen continue to develop. Lanugo (thin, downy hair) is growing all over her body for warmth.

The roof of your baby’s tiny mouth is fully formed now, and her constant sucking reflexes are helping to create full, cherubic cheeks. If you’re having a boy, the prostate is forming, and if you’re having a girl, her ovaries are moving down into her pelvis.

Week 13 = 2nd Trimester!!

Standard

YAY!!  2nd Trimester – this is when everyone promised me I’d start feeling better….waiting!  I’ve felt good off and on the past week.  The nausea is a little better but I’ve started getting pretty bad headaches, which I never get – luckily one Tylenol seems to help!  I know Ryan will be happy if I start feeling better in the next few days and we can get out and about a little more.

About the baby…

Baby’s now the size of a peach!
Your fetus is forming teeth and vocal cords…savor this, their nonfunctional phase. Baby is approaching normal proportions, with his head now only one third the size of his body. His ears have moved up from his neck into place and his eyes — which are looking more and more like your baby blues (or browns, or greens) — have moved from the sides of the head to the front of the face. His legs still need to grow longer, but this week his arms will lengthen to be proportionate with his body, and he’ll be able to stick his thumb in his mouth.  The intestines are in the process of moving from the umbilical cord to baby’s tummy — much more convenient.

And me…

Headstand

Standard

We went to the doctor Thursday for one of the routine genetic tests – everything looked perfect.  However, that was very hard to tell because the baby was standing on its head the entire time!  She did three different sonograms – I got up and moved around between each – and that stubborn little thing would not budge.  It did kick at her when she pressed really hard trying to get it to move, you could also see it waving it’s arms, it was amazing.  You can make out the feet (which may be big like it’s daddy’s) and the arms.  It’s finally starting to look like a baby!  Here is some video that Ryan captured from the monitor.  The heartbeat was at 163 bpm.  Also, a few sonogram pictures – you can see it’s doing a headstand!  Ryan said, “I hope this is not a sign of things to come.”  I’m just thinking she’ll make a great gymnast/cheerleader!!  Ha ha

Upside down still, but you can see it's hand waving and feet at the top!

You can see it kicking it's legs here, still upside down....

Week 12

Standard

Hopefully this is the week the nausea goes away!  I didn’t really think the Zofran was working since I still felt so bad, but when I quit taking it, it was like a scene from the exorcist, so I got back on it!  It’s been a pretty active week despite my sickness.  My parents came to visit on Sat urday – I was so sick all day, but we managed to go to the USC football game that night, it was our first, so fun!!

My parents stayed through Tuesday.  On my birthday on Monday we went to the doctor (I had gained 6 pounds since my last visit a month ago!) and got to hear the heartbeat, it was amazing.  When she was first looking for it, she’d hear it for a second then you’d hear a loud “whoosh” and the baby was moving around, then when she finally got in the right spot, there was a lout thud, she said it was the baby kicking – so hard to believe it’s in there moving and kicking!

Your baby’s the size of a plum!
The average fetus at 12 weeks is about 2.1 inches long and .49 ounces. Now that she’s got pretty much all her parts, her main job is to keep on growing.
Your baby at 12 weeks
  • Most of her critical systems are fully formed!
  • She’s about to enter the growth and maturation stage, in which her organs and tissues will grow and develop rapidly.
  • She’s now developing her reflexes — if you poke her body, she’ll likely move.
  • She’s opening and closing her fingers and curling her toes, too.
  • Her brain is developing fast!
As promised, here are some pictures of the toys my nephews bought for the baby and a couple of the burp cloths my mom made for the baby…

Week 11

Standard

Well, last week I spoke too soon about the Zofran working.  I’m actually not sure if it works or makes it worse….I’m still nauseous either way.  We went to Dallas for Labor Day weekend, it was nice to see family and some friends, but I was very sick.  I wasn’t sure I would be able to even fly home on Monday, but I managed.  Ryan is still being wonderful and doing all he can to make me feel better, unfortunately it doesn’t cure nausea.  But, he keeps telling me how strong I am and what a trooper I am, so that helps because I feel like a lazy complainer!

While in Texas my cousin Amy sent us the cutest baby gift ever, I can’t wait to take that little angel to it’s first USC game, it will be the talk of the stadium!!

USC hat and booties

bootie close-up - love the button

Also, my nephews got us some toys for the baby (I left them in Texas for my mom to bring this weekend when they come out because my suitcase was way too full).  But I will post some pics as soon as I get them, they are sweet…

We have a couple of doctors appts. next week – one to hear the heartbeat, the other is some of the genetic testing, please be in prayer about all of that, that everything goes smoothly.

Here’s what’s going on this week with baby… (it’s hard to believe my stomach is so big when the baby is still so little :/)

your baby’s the size of a lime!
Your fetus is about 1.6 inches long, and she’s got about a 1:1 head to body ratio. She now weighs in at about .25 ounces.
  • You can’t see it, but she’s moving fluidly and gracefully in there.
  • Her skin is see-through, but she’s on her way to looking more like a baby.
  • All major organs are present and vital body systems – like circulatory, respiratory, and digestive have been laid out.
  • Her fingers and toes aren’t webbed anymore.
  • Tooth buds, hair follicles and nail beds are forming.
From weeks 11-14 the baby will double in length!!
That’s all for today, I’m actually not too sick, so I’m gonna take a shower and put on make-up!!

Hello world!

Standard

Well, I decided to start a blog after a close friend suggested it would be a great way to keep everyone updated on what’s going on in our lives, especially since we have a new addition to the family coming in March.  This way everyone can feel like they are a part of our pregnancy, no matter where you live.  I can also share pictures of my belly and some of the fun gifts we are getting along the way.  I’m excited to share this with everyone, it should be fun!!
